Muslim and Christian armies both made one Spanish warrior their hero.

Spanish nobleman Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, known today as El Cid – Moorish for ‘Lord’ – won battles for Christian kingdoms in the north of Spain, then thought for opposing Moorish kingdoms in the east. This was because after the death of Spain’s King Sancho II, he was banished from the kingdom by Sancho’s brother Alfonso and began to fight for the Moorish kingdom of Zaragoza.
