No one is allowed to look for the lost tomb of Genghis Khan
Genghis Khan was a ruler from Mongolia who conquered much of China and central Asia, and founded a powerful empire about 800 years ago. He left orders that when he died, his burial place should remain a secret.
There are many legends about how Genghis Khan’s tomb was hidden. Some say he was buried on a sacred mountain in Mongolia, in a region which, for hundreds of years, few people were permitted to enter.
That mountain is today part of Mongolia’s Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area. In line with Khan’s wish, the government refuses permission for anyone to search there for the lost tomb.
