Trainee Marketing Department Assistant

Overview

Usborne is a multi-award-winning children’s publisher - we create a huge range of illustrated, imaginative, exciting children’s books.

In this entry-level role, you’ll provide general administrative support to the UK Marketing & Publicity team. You will work as part of the team to maintain and develop the reputation of the Usborne brand, publicise and promote Usborne books, series, sub-brands and authors, with the aim of increasing sales.

What you’ll learn

What marketing and publicity are, how a marketing and publicity team functions, and how it collaborates with other teams in a publishing company to promote and sell books
How to assist all member of the Marketing & Publicity team with project-based tasks
What it means to support the efficient running of a publisher's Marketing & Publicity department, whether that's organising advance copies, stationery supplies, or marketing materials
Management of wide-ranging filing systems, including shared folders and mailing lists
The best way to contribute to the team through tasks such as packing proof mailings
How to contribute to Usborne’s social media platforms as and when necessary/appropriate
Participating in both internal and external meetings as appropriate; taking and distributing minutes as required
Customer service skills through email correspondence including trade enquiries, complaints and feedback from consumers
A broader understanding of the book trade through organising and attending Usborne events, including but not limited to exhibitions, book fairs, events, and festivals as required

Knowledge, skills, experience

No prior publishing experience is required
Have excellent organisational skills
Interpersonal skills
Pay close attention to detail at all times
Be aware of the need for accuracy, particularly in matters of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and bibliographic data
Excellent time management and the ability to juggle a varied workload
The ability to meet deadlines as set by other members of the team is imperative
