A lick of ice cream could cost you your life.
In the 19th century, in cities such as London, ice cream was sold in tiny glasses that were licked clean, then reused by vendors. Eventually this practice was linked to the spread of a deadly lung disease called tuberculosis. This led to vendors experimenting with new ways of serving ice cream through various edible ice cream cups including the waffle cone.
