Shakespeare created over 1,700 new words and phrases commonly used today
Words such as ‘moonbeam’, ‘amazement’, ‘lonely’, ‘bloodstained’ and ‘gloomy’ were invented by the famous playwright. He also penned these phrases first too – ‘wearing your heart on your sleeve’, being as ‘dead as a doornail’, or a ‘sorry sight’.
