Dots, lines and squiggles can spell out ballads, songs and symphonies
Imagine that you lived in a time before music could be recorded, and that you composed a long, complex piece of music, such as a symphony. How would you remember it all, and share it with other musicians? It turns out, all you’d need is a few sheets of paper and a pen. People use many systems of musical notation to tell musicians which notes to play and in what order.
