Peter Usborne, MBE

Founder of Usborne Publishing

In 1973, Peter Usborne pioneered a completely new generation of entertaining, colourful and friendly non-fiction books. He is a patron for READ International, a charity that delivers good quality books to schools in Tanzania, and has also set up the Usborne Foundation with his children, Nicola and Martin, to support initiatives to develop early literacy.

The Usborne Foundation developed Teach Your Monster to Read, a series of free, award-winning online reading games. In 2011, Peter was awarded an MBE for "services to the publishing industry".

Peter is still very much involved in the business and – when he’s not travelling the world – is in the office every day.

Usborne books

Usborne books are conceived and created by writers and designers in our offices in London, England, and illustrated by artists worldwide. We believe the way we work makes our books different from other children's books, and this is what makes them so well loved.

Usborne is a powerhouse that retains a good, independent spirit. Judge – Children's Publisher of the Year Award 2014
