There’s a mysterious fungus that looks like a ghost
There are over 100 species of fungus that glow in the dark. For most species this glow, or bioluminescence, has a clear function. The glow attracts insects who pick up and spread their seed-like spores to other places where more fungus can grow. However, this is not the case with the Australian ghost fungus. Insects don’t seem to be attracted to it, so the reason why it glows remains a mystery! The ghost fungus glows, for reasons nobody knows.
