Behind the scenes at Usborne

Find out how to talk to young children about love, and why it’s so important. Usborne author, Katie Daynes, shares the main lessons she learned from writing Very First Questions and Answers: What is love?

In October, we invited nine students to go behind the scenes at our London office for our revamped Usborne Academy work experience week.

Usborne author Sam Taplin describes how sensory books with both touch and feel patches and sounds create a world of surprises for babies to explore. His new series of Don't Tickle! books have been specially created with babies and very young children in mind and are perfect for sensory play or tummy time, as well as snuggling up with at story time.

I once got the same book for Christmas two years in a row – and I couldn’t have been happier when I unwrapped the second one because I’d practically destroyed the first by reading it so much. The object of my fascination was an "adventure" gamebook, and it’s hard to express quite how thrilling I found it.

The main aim of All About Diversity is to be part of that celebration: to help ALL children to feel valued and respected, and to help them learn to respond in a kind and fair way to everyone.

Well that's a first – Usborne in a medical research paper! It’s been published by the BMJ Paediatrics Open, a peer-reviewed scientific journal, and it evaluates the children's information leaflet, Coming to hospital, that we collaborated on with Cambridge University Hospital medics, based on our flap book Look Inside a Hospital.
