But life in the oceans is threatened by climate change, pollution – especially from plastics – and over-fishing. Coral reefs are home to many marine species, and they help protect coastlines from storms and floods. At least 50% of coral reefs have died over the last 30 years, as a result of pollution and physical destruction.
