Ready, Steady, Listen: A fun way for nurseries to build their book collection

Ready, Steady, Listen: A fun way for nurseries to build their book collection

For nurseries looking to expand their book collection without stretching the budget, Ready, Steady, Listen (RSL) offers a fantastic alternative to Ready, Steady, Reads.

The idea is simple: encourage children to take part in sponsored listening, while helping them discover just how enjoyable stories can be.

    What is Ready, Steady, Listen?

Instead of asking children to read a certain number of books, RSL encourages them to listen to someone reading to them.

That could be a parent, grandparent, older sibling or another special person in their lives. And in today’s world, listening doesn’t have to mean sitting down with a traditional book either. Children could enjoy an audiobook or listen to a story using something like a Yoto card.

The focus is on making stories accessible, enjoyable and part of everyday life.

    Turning Listening into Books

Children can be sponsored for taking part in the challenge, with the money raised going towards buying new books for their nursery.

This creates a lovely cycle: children spend time enjoying stories and listening to others, while the nursery can use the funds raised to build an even bigger and more exciting library for everyone to enjoy.

    And there’s an added bonus!

If the books are purchased through an Independent Usborne Partner, the nursery could potentially receive up to an additional 60% of the order value in free books, helping the money raised go even further.

    More Than Just Fundraising

Ready, Steady, Listen isn't simply a way to raise money for new books. It’s also an opportunity to nurture a love of stories and reading from a young age.

Sharing a story together can be a wonderful way for children and their families to spend quality time together. It encourages conversation, imagination and connection, while helping children discover the joy that books can bring.

For nurseries, it’s a simple and fun way to involve families, encourage a positive relationship with books and potentially make a real difference to their book collection.

    Ready, Steady, Listen!

So, if your nursery would love to add more books to its shelves while encouraging children to enjoy stories with the people they love, why not give Ready, Steady, Listen a try?

Listen, enjoy, raise funds and fill those bookshelves!

If you are interested in having your nursery take part in a Ready Steady Listen event, then head on over to our Find a Partner page and search for your local Independent Usborne Partner, or fill out the form and let us get you in touch with the best Partner for your nursery.
