Knitted sweaters protect penguins against oil spills
Scientists have found an unusual way to protect penguins from oil pollution. Oil can stick to penguins’ feathers, and when they try to lick it off they are poisoned and die. To prevent this, in the event of a big oil spill, penguins are given knitted sweaters. The wool traps the oil, and stops it getting onto the penguins' feathers.
