Clare Povey

Clare Povey is an author, avid language learner and the proud owner of four Blue Peter badges.
She wanted to be a marine biologist when she was younger but found science difficult and so decided to create stories about the wonders of the natural world instead.

Her first novel for younger readers The Unexpected Tale of Bastien Bonlivre was a Waterstones Children's Book of the Month and was inspired by her time studying French at university and living in Lille.

She has dealt with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) her entire life and now writes stories about characters who have adventures and are forever curious about the world, despite their intrusive thoughts.

The Midnight Sweet Factory is a fast-paced, colourful and fabulously inventive adventure that will leave your mouth watering. It was a joy to return to the world of the Wanderdays. Clare Povey's imagination is deliciously fun.

Philippa Leathley, author of Inkbound

Treat yourself to this gobstopping romp where our daring detectives dash into all sorts of sweet peril and mouth watering adventure.

Readers are drawn into a world where sweets conceal secrets and courage proves the greatest ingredient. Parents will applaud the timely environmental themes and inventive plotting, and children will delight in the magical confectionery, perilous twists and triumphant sense of adventure.

Preneur World

Lots of fun, the story also carries threads about looking after our planet - not in a preachy or lecturing kind of way but woven into the narrative quite naturally, so that this is not just a great adventure but one that leaves the reader knowing more about the world around them than they did when they picked it up.
