Ultimate is a team sport in which players race up and down a pitch, passing and catching a flying disc called a frisbee to score points. These days, the disc is made of plastic, but it first started with people throwing tins, lids, pans before the sport existed. The fascination with UFOs led to the creation of ‘flying saucers’ but in the 1960s, American college students began using fruit pie tins as their disc which led to the invention of Ultimate. The game became so popular that sturdier, better-balanced plastic discs were created and helped the sport to take off!
