Amusing and colourful everyday scenes with objects from each scene labelled in French with English translations. Delightfully illustrated by Stephen Cartwright with lots to look and and talk about, and a yellow duck to find on each double page. Readers can listen to all the words read by a native French speaker at the Usborne Quicklinks Website.
Heather Amery was born and brought up in Bath, Somerset. Heather has written over a hundred books for children, including alphabet books, science and history books, craft books, classical fairy tales, a series for beginner readers called Farmyard Tales,
Bible stories, and Greek Myths. She has also compiled word books, song books, and books of poetry.
Mairi Mackinnon has lived in England, Scotland, France, Italy and Spain, and worked as a teacher, translator and tour manager before joining Usborne. Over the years she has written and edited Usborne books in sixteen languages, from Arabic to Welsh. She lives in a house full of thousands of books and many strange musical instruments, from electric cellos to didgeridoos.
The book really does introduce children to just a hundred words in French without getting into confusing details such as grammar or sentence structure. Each brightly illustrated double page layout features a central scene, with items from the scene listed at the top of the page with their French and English words beneath them. In reading the book you simply go through the pages naming various objects in the pictures and discussing what's going on with your child. This is ideal for very young children as it means they can switch between enjoying the pictures and trying the new words.'
