Bark, fishnets and rags were used to make the first paper
During the second century, Cai Lun, an official working for the Chinese emperor, is said to have observed wasps making papery nests out of chewed-up wood. Inspired by the wasps,
Cai Lun made a paste of pounded mulberry bark, rags and fishing nets. He spread it out on a screen to dry...and peeled off a sheet of paper.
